Tibet retreat tour is one of Tibet Shambhala Adventure's special Tibet holiday that our customers can enjoy visiting the cultural heart of central Tibet and at the same time, you can do meditation and communicate with the monks in the monasteries during your Tibet holiday. Arrival in Lhasa and visit the most sacred and oldest temples and monasteries of Tibet as well as the Potala Palace, the living quarter of the successive of the Dalai Lamas.

You will be driving from Lhasa to Ganden monastery. The monastery is to the south of Lhasa city at the distance of 60km. Ganden monastery is the most important and sacred site of Gelukpa school in Tibetan Buddhism. You will have several days of Tibet holiday and Tibet retreat camping tour by looping around the most sacred Tibet retreat sites such as Drigungthil monastery and Tridom nunnery in the north east of Lhasa, Olka Cholung hermitage of Tsongkapa, the founder of the Gelukpa school. Zangri Kangmar cave of Machik Labdron. Samye monastery and Hepori cave which is the most sacred site of Nyingmapa school and also the place where Padmasavawa used to take meditation and defeated the evil spirits. During your Tibet retreat camping tour, we will set up our camping in a very quite place near by the monasteries or closer to the hermitage and You can also spend your time and meditate in the monasteries or at your camp site. Avoid from the busy city lives and be yourself quit, calm, peaceful in mind, relax and enjoy this spectacular Tibet holiday.

Tibet retreat tour continues to Tsetang, the cradle of Tibet and visit Yumbu Lhakang and Traduk temple, the first castle and temple of Tibet. Taking a round Yamdrok lake Tibet holiday and Tibet treat camping tour, en route visit Mindroling and some small monasteries around the Yamdrok lake and Ralung monastery. Ralung is the most important site of the Drukpa Kagyupa school in Tibetan Buddhism. Your Tibet holiday will also explore Phurma Yumtso which is between the border of Tibet and Bhutan to the south of Nakartse county. Continue your Tibet retreat tour in the capital cities of the western Tibet including Gyantse and Shigatse. There you will visit Palchoe monastery and Kubum Pagoda stupa and Tashi Lhunpo monastery.

  • Day 01: Fly to Lhasa 3650Mt, 60KmGang Gyen hotel

    You will be landing at Gongkar airport and then driving to Lhasa at the distance of 60 Km and it would take you around an hour drive. On the way you will be visiting Nyethang stone carved Bhudha.

  • Day 02: Lhasa Visit Potala Palace and Jokang temple. Same hotel

    Jokang temple was built in the 7th century by one of the greatest Tibetan Kings called Songtsen Gampo. The temple is located just in front of your hotel and you can visit the Barkorstreet after the sightseeing of Jokang temple. Potala Palace is the winter palace of the Dalai Lama,built originally in the 7th century and expended to the present size by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. The Potala Palace is thirteen stories high and it has more than 1000 rooms.

  • Day 03: Lhasa/sightseeing, Drepung and Sera monasteries. Same hotel

    Drepung monasteryis the largest monastery in Tibet, built in the 15 th century by JamyangChoeje who is one of Tsongkapa’s foremost disciple. The monastery is beautifully located up in a hill at the distance of 7 Km from the old section of the city and it is the biggest monastery in Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery has four main colleges with numerous small chapels and house chapels, known as Khangtsen in Tibetan. There are around six hundred monks nowadays. Sera monastery was founded in around 15th century by JamchenChoeje who is another famous disciple of Tsongka pa and it is the second largest monastery of Tibet. There are three big colleges with numerous chapels and house chapels. The most attraction to visit this monastery is to see the monks debating which hold from 3-5Pm everyday apart from Sunday.

  • Day 04: Lhasa/Ganden monastery-Camp site 4005Mt/70Km.Camp

    Today you will be driving to Gaden monastery at the distance of 70 Km. Ganden Monastery: It is the first monastery of the yellow hat sect, founded in the 14th century by Tsongkapsa himself up in a hill at the distance of 70 KM from Lhasa. You can see beautiful Tibetan villages and yaks while you are driving up to the monastery from the main road. You can also see lots of Tibetan villages on the way from Lhasa to the monastery and all those villages are farmers. After the sightseeing, drive down to the camp campsite.

  • Day 05: Ganden monastery/Drigungthil monastery4280mts/70Km. Camp

    Drive to DigungThil monastery at the distance of 70Km and the road condition is paved so it takes you around 3 hrs to get there. DhigungThil monastery is the mother monastery of Dhigung Kagyupa sect and it has more than 600 years history. After finishing the sightseeing there, you will be driving to Tirdom nunnery where there is hot spring. You can enjoy a bath in the medical hot spiring. After visiting the Tirdom nunnery and taking shower in the hot spring, return to the campsite.

  • Day 06: Drigungthil-Ruthok-Olka,4100Mts/145Km Camp

    Today you will be driving back to MedroGongkarcounty at the distance of 55Km and from there you will follow the main road to Nyingtri. After around 45Km, you will reach Ruthog hot spring from which we turn right and take a dirt road for another 45Km to Olka.On the way, we can see some nomads with their animals including Yaks, Sheep etc. Have tea at the campsite and then go to visit olkacholung monastery. OlkaCholung monastery is the original Gelukpa hermitage founded by Tsongkapa himself, the founder of the Gelukpa sect in 14th Century. We can visit the most sacred Ozerpuk cave used by Tsongkapa for a long period of meditation. After the visit to Tsongkapa cave, come back to the beautiful camp and enjoy the most beautiful Olka valley.

  • Day 07: Olka-Zangri Kangmar monastery-Tsetang-Samye monasery,3600mts/150Km Yulong hotel

    Drive down in the Olka valley at the distance of 20Km and stop for a short visit to ZangriKangmar monastery. ZangriKangmar monastery was once the residence of Tibet’s renowned 11th Century female Yogini MachikLabdron. We will continue our journey to Tsetang, have lunch in Tsetang. Visit Yumbu Lhakang and Tradruk temple. After the sightseeing in Tsetang, you will drive to Samye along the Bramaputra river which is started from western Tibet where the sacred Mt Kailash is and it finally empties into the bay of Bengal. After around 50Km drive, we will reach Samye monastery. Afternoon, walk around Samye monastery.

  • Day 08: Samye-Mindroling-Dupud Chokor monastery-Yamdrok Lake-Kangru monastery 4488mts/145Km Monastery stay

    Early morning, participate the monks ceremony and do some meditation. visit Samye monastery. Samye monastery is the first monastery of Tibet built in the 8th Century by Tibetan King Trisong Detsen, Guru Ringpoche and Shantra Rakshita. Hike to Hepori cave which take an hour and half to reach. Visit the most sacred cave in Samye monastery, have a panoramic view of the whole Samye village and the monastery. we will drive along the Bramaputra river and after Dranang county, we will turn left from the main road to Mindroling monastery and drive off the road for 8Km distance. Mindroling is the second biggest Nyingmapa monastery in the central Tibet. Drive back to the main road after Mindrol Ling sightseeing and continuously drive along the Bramaputra river to the next monastery, DupuChokor. From main road, turn left in the Langthang valley, visit Dupu Chokor monastery. We will drive along many beautiful villages in the valley and the people who live in the villages are farmers and finally cross a pass called Drila,4900mts. From the top of the pass, we will see a very good view of the beautiful Yamdroklake and Kurla Gangri which is over 7000mts above sea level. Drive down to the lake shore and camp after Drangda village.

  • Day 09: Yamdrok lake-Phurma Yumtso-Taglung-Ralung,4550mts/130Km Monastery stay

    Drive along the Yamdroklake and enjoy many beautiful vilalges. Just before reaching Taglung, We will drive further to the south by crossing a small pass. Visit Phurma Yumtso lake and then drive back to Taglung. Visit Taglung monastery. Continuously drive to Ralung monastery. Ralung is a beautifully located Kagyupa monastery and it has a very beautiful campsite in the summer time.

  • Day 10: Ralung-Gyangtse-Shigatse. (3900mts/ 190Km ) Hotel on B.B

    You will start your tour at around 8.30Am from the campsite and then drive towards Gyangtse. You will reach Gyantse by lunch time. Visit Palchoe monastery and Kubum Pagoda stupa. Continue Tibet holiday to Shigatse by passing one of the biggest farming land in Tibet where people grow barley, wheat, different kinds of vegetables. Pm visit Tashi Lhunpo monastery and old market of Shigatse.

  • Day 11: Drive from Shigatse to Lhasa (3650Mts/ 280KM ) Hotel on B.B
