Mustang Trekking in Nepal is one of the best off the beaten trekking trails in Nepal. This trekking in Nepal gives you a spectacular and authentic experience in the remote trans-Himalayan Mountain region of Nepal. Mustang is located in the northern part of Nepal and it is one of the seventy seven districts of Nepal. The head quarter of Mustang is Jomsom and the main town of the upper Mustang is Lo-Manthang. Lo Manthang is located very close to the border between China Tibet and Nepal. You can reach Drongpa county in Tibet in a day from Lo-Manthang. Drongpa county is located between Mount Kailash and Shigatse city in Tibet in the western plateau of Tibet.

This 17 days Mustang trekking in Nepal begins in Kathmandu with tours of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Then we drive to Pokhara and fly to Jomsom the next day and begin our trek in Nepal. From Jomsom, we will start our most adventurous trekking to Upper Mustang, the most remote region of Nepal and it is also known as the Last Forbidden Buddhist Kingdom because It was opened to the tourists since 1990s only and even today, the region is very strict and limited visitors are able to do Mustang trekking in Nepal. While trekking to Upper Mustang region of Nepal, we can admire the difference and beauty of tree-less landscape, beautiful canyons, rocky trails and views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and other Himalayas as well as the uniqueness of their Buddhist culture, their way of dressing like Tibetans, way of speaking like Tibetans, their most sacred and ancient monasteries and an extremely beautiful architecture of the Royal Palace and it’s walls in Lo-Manthang.

There are some nice Buddhist festivals in Lo- Manthang and one of the most popular festivals is Tiji festival. if you choose a right time of your trekking to Upper Mustang, then you can visit this special festival during your Mustang trekking in Nepal. Tiji festival is a very important spiritual festival which is celebrated in Lo-Manthang. The Tiji Festival features a three days ritual activities, known as the 'chasing of demons'. The festival is timed to coincide with the end of the dry season (late winter/spring). The monks of Lo Manthang's "Choedhe" monastery perform ritual dances during the celebration. The harassment of Ma Tam Ru Ta (in a dance called "Tsa Chham" on the first day), the birth of Dorjee Sonnu as the demon's son (on the second day called "Nga Chham") and the attempt to return the demon to Lord Buddha's realm (on the third and final day) are enacted during the performances.

The best time to do Upper Mustang trekking is from June to beginning of October. During this period of time, the weather is not cold and the scenery is turned into green. The beautiful, green barley fields and a beautiful valley of Lo-Manthang is also turned into green landscape. The way of booking Mustang trekking in Nepal is not the same as other trekking in Nepal since we need to make restrict permits to Upper Mustang so we always recommend to book your Mustang trekking in a month advance. If you are still not satisfied to visit more wilderness of the plateau, bigger green grassland, grazing thousands of Yak and sheep on it, we recommend you to join our Mount Kailash group tour from Lhasa.
