Derge Sham festival is held in the 9th of Lunar month according to Tibetan calendar. During the festival, many of the pilgrims and tourists from the villages nearby and Derge town surround the monastery to watch the special ceremony with Cham dancing carried out by monks in Derge by wearing Buddhist mask. Derge Cham festival is one of the most well-known Buddhist festivals in the Kham region. You can visit Derge printing house and Derge monastery. Traveling to Kham region in around September is a great time, especially if you like to make a beautiful Tibet trekking in Derge area.
