Most people who travel to Tibet say the same thing when they come back: the place was bigger, quieter, and more serious than they expected. Not just the mountains — the whole feeling of it. And that feeling is easy to miss if you're moving too fast, in too large a group, with too little time to actually stop.

That's why we built our Tibet group tour program around small, fixed-date departures. Fewer people. More space. A guide who can actually look after you.

Why Travel Tibet in a Small Group?

  • Our Tibet group tour itineraries include all required Tibet Travel Permits, so you don't have to navigate the permit system alone — every foreign visitor needs one, and the paperwork is more complex than most people expect.

  • Small groups (never more than 12) mean our guides can pace the journey around real people, not a spreadsheet.

  • Altitude acclimatization is built into every route — Lhasa sits at 3,650m, and we don't rush past that fact.

  • Fixed departures give solo travelers and couples a reliable way to explore Tibet without paying private tour prices.

Tibet isn't a destination you can improvise. There are restricted zones, seasonal road closures, and serious altitude to think about before you've packed a bag. A well-organized group departure handles all of that — so you can focus on actually being there.

Our Tibet Group Tour Routes

1. Lhasa Cultural Tour with Sunrise at Yamdrok Lake — 6 Days

Difficulty: Easy–Moderate | Starting from: USD $1,199

For travelers with less time, this is the most focused way to understand Lhasa. The Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor bazaar aren't just sightseeing stops — they're the living center of Tibetan culture, religion, and daily life. We add a pre-dawn drive to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's three most sacred lakes, where the early light turns the water a color that's genuinely hard to describe. Most standard tours skip this morning. We think it's one of the best in Asia.

Best for: First-time Tibet visitors, cultural travelers, those with limited time.

2. Everest Base Camp with Nomad Experience — 10 Days

Difficulty: Moderate | Starting from: USD $1,950

This route follows one of the world's great overland journeys: Lhasa through Gyantse and Shigatse, across high passes, past glacier views and ancient fortress towns, ending below the north face of Everest. Along the way, we build in an overnight with a Tibetan nomad family — not a staged performance, but a quiet evening in a real tent, drinking butter tea and watching the plateau fade to black. Everest is the headline, but that evening tends to be what people remember most.

Best for: Adventurous travelers, Himalayan enthusiasts, those wanting real cultural depth.

3. Mount Kailash and Everest Base Camp — 15 Days

Difficulty: Challenging | Starting from: USD $2, 799

This is the long one, and it earns its length. Mount Kailash in western Tibet is one of Asia's most sacred pilgrimage sites — revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers alike. The three-day kora (circumambulation) around it passes through high passes and remote valleys that most Tibet visitors never reach. Combined with Everest Base Camp and the cultural heartland of Lhasa, this route is a genuine cross-section of Tibet. Travelers who come for the scenery often leave having felt something more.

Best for: Long-haul travelers, pilgrimage route seekers, anyone wanting Tibet's full scale.

4. Ganden to Samye Trek — 8 Days

Difficulty: Moderate–Challenging | Starting from: USD $1,650

Not everyone wants to see Tibet through a vehicle window. The Ganden to Samye route is one of the finest high-altitude treks in central Tibet, crossing two major mountain passes between a pair of ancient monasteries. The trail passes through yak pasture, alpine meadows, and hermitage country that hasn't changed much in centuries. Groups that do this route tend to bond quickly — shared effort has that effect. For trekkers who want the real texture of the Tibetan plateau underfoot, this is it.

Best for: Trekkers, hikers, off-road Tibet explorers.

A Note on Altitude

Every itinerary is built with acclimatization in mind — not added as an afterthought. Our guides have worked at altitude for years and know the difference between "this person needs more water" and "this person needs to descend." We don't rush. Good Tibet travel is patient travel.
