There are two ways to get to Lhasa, the main city of Tibet Autonomous Region.
- From Kathmandu (the capital city of Nepal) by taking flights to Lhasa. There are a couple of flights daily flying from Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport) to Lhasa (Gongkar Airport), the only International Airport which have direct flight between Kathmandu and Lhasa during high season. The most preferred airlines from Kathmandu to Lhasa is Air China, Sichuan Airlines. It will only take about 1 hour. to get to Lhasa from Kathmandu by air.
- From mainland China to Lhasa by Air or by train. There are many flights from mainland China to Lhasa and the most preferred flights are Beijing to Lhasa, Shanghai to Lhasa, Chengdu to Lhasa, Kunming to Lhasa and so on… the fastest direct flight will take at least 2-3hrs to reach Lhasa. If you choose to travel to Lhasa by train, then there are many other train schedules from different cities of China like Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou and Xining.

There are two ways to get to Tibet, one from Nepal and another from Mainland China.

Once you get China Visa and you need to send Passport and China visa copies to your local Tibetan travel agency to prepare for Tibet travel permits which will take around two weeks. Once the Tibet travel permit is finished, your local Tibetan travel agency must send the original Tibet travel permits to you hotel in mainland China or to deliver it at the airport from where you are flying to Lhasa as you must need original Tibet Enter Permit to board the flight or train to Tibet from mainland China.
